Trillium Sound Research Announces Special Offer on TextToSpeech User Kits.


CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA -- September 7th, 1994 -- Trillium Sound
Research Inc. today announced a time-limited special offer on their
TextToSpeech User Kits.  The Kits will sell for $99 CDN (approximately
$75 US) until the end of September, for savings of over 40% off the
regular price of $175 CDN.

The User TextToSpeech Kit gives users the ability to convert any
length of text into synthetic speech in real time.  It includes
PrEditor, an application used to customize pronunciations, and
BigMouth, an application which provides a text-to-speech service to
any application which has a Services menu.  Converting text to speech
is as simple as highlighting text, or dragging a file into a well.
The user has full control over speaking rate, pitch, volume, and
stereo balance.  Natural-sounding intonation is provided
automatically, and may be controlled manually.  Controls such as
pause, resume, and stop are also included.

Pronunciations are provided by a large Main Dictionary, plus optional
custom dictionaries created by the user and/or application developer.
A letter-to-sound algorithm gives pronunciations for neologisms and
rare or misspelled words.  Numbers, symbols, abbreviations, and the
like are handled intelligently.

Developers can incorporate text-to-speech capabilities into their
applications by using the TextToSpeech Developer Kit.  A superset of
the User Kit, it includes the TextToSpeech Object, example code, and
full developer documentation.  The User Kit can be upgraded to the
Developer Kit easily and inexpensively.

The User Kit costs $99 CDN (approx. $75 US), plus shipping, in single
quantities, till September 30th (regular price is $175 CDN).  Site
licenses and discounts on quantity purchases are available for the
User Kit.  The Developer Kit costs $350 CDN (approx. $290 US), plus
shipping.  The User Kit can be upgraded to the full Developer Kit for
$175 CDN (approx. $145 US).  Current owners of Version 1.0 of the
TextToSpeech Kit can upgrade to Version 1.07 for the nominal charge of
$15 CDN ($35 CDN for overnight delivery) to cover media, shipping and
handling.  A demo of the Kit is not available, but we do offer a 30
day money-back guarantee on single quantity purchases.  New Kits are
shipped via air courier ($20 charge to North American destinations,
$40 to overseas destinations).  Currently, the TextToSpeech Kits run
only on NeXT Computers.  Ports to other platforms are in progress.
The Intel port is expected in the fourth quarter of 1994.
